Morisken Dancers
The series of the Moorish (Moriskan) Dancers in particular deserve being called masterpieces of porcelain art. The 70 cm or 28″ wooden originals created in the workshop of gothic sculptor Erasmus Grasser in 1480 for the Gothic Hall “Dance House” in Munich, were a milestone in art history. The Porcelain Manufacturer Allach and their artist Richard Förster were commissioned to reproduce this series of 10 scaled-down figurines true to detail for exclusive use by of the city of Munich. Five of the Figures were actually put into production.
